In this month's New Agriculturist . . .

00/3

Welcome to another edition of New Agriculturist. As usual, we have a wide range of articles and items of news. Since our last edition, natural disasters - and manmade conflicts - have continued to hit the headlines with the continent of Africa taking much of the brunt. As we upload this edition, land reform in Zimbabwe continues to cause concern, not only to the farming communities within that country but to others facing similar challenges elsewhere. What is certain is that successful agricultural production, with sufficient going into store, helps to mitigate the effects of natural disaster. What is also certain is that conflict and successful agricultural production rarely go hand in hand. At New Agriculturist we can do nothing about conflict but we hope our focus on crop storage may help when natural disasters destroy the growing crop. And concern for the apparent increase in the number and severity of severe weather phenomena, which have caused such destruction to agriculture in recent months, including the current drought in India, has prompted our points of view and perspective on climate change.

As the content of each edition continues to grow, we have now introduced a download section which gives access to some of the sections as rich text (rtf) files. This will allow those readers with expensive, or slow internet connections to download whole sections to read off line. You can access this at http://www.new-agri.co.uk/dl/00-3.html.

Please let us know if you experience any problems with accessing New Agriculturist. Please also suggest topics that you would like to see covered in future editions and send us your suggestions for making New Agriculturist even easier to use.
