A lamp and a piece of string
Small boys and grown men, and even a few women, enjoy fishing. One
little boy in Kenya enjoyed it so much that when he grew up he made a
small dam across a stream that ran through his farm and, in the pool
he had made, he kept fish as a hobby. He fed them on kitchen and farm
scraps but this took time and, eventually, he found an easier way to
feed his fish.
He noticed that when termites are flying, which they do at night,
they are attracted to light and so he rigged up a hurricane lamp with
a small pulley arrangement and some string. Once lit and hauled
roughly to the middle of the pond, the lamp attracted not only
termites but other flying insects which fell into the water and fed
the fish with no further effort on his part.
There may be a moral to this tale. His neighbours who, more
properly, should have adopted this good idea in order to raise fish
for themselves, simply helped themselves to the well-fed fish so
attractively lit by the hurricane lamp!
