IPC Livestock Barneveld College is a centre for training in animal husbandry, in animal care and in feed milling technology.

The College offers mid-career Diploma courses and a training programme for: extension officers, agriculture teachers and instructors and managers in the husbandry of small species of farm animals, and in animal feed and its manufacture and the production of compound feeds. Emphasis is placed upon their role in agricultural and rural development.

IPC Livestock Barneveld College annually organizes the following:

  • International Course on poultry husbandry (6 months)
  • International Course on pig husbandry (6 months)
  • International Animal Feed Training Programme (3 months)

Apart from these two courses and the training programme, short (2 weeks) professional training programmes for the large-scale commercial sectors are organized, covering:

  • Modern Hatchery Management
  • Modern Layer Management
  • Modern Broiler Farm Management
  • Modern Breeder Farm Management
  • Modern Pig Farm Management
  • Artificial Insemination in Pigs
  • Sexing of day old chicks
  • Modern Animal Feed Manufacturing
  • Feed formulation (1 week)

Barneveld College offers a highly differentiated programme of practice oriented courses at all levels. Adequate information on most recent developments in animal husbandry and feed manufacturing is taught to participants of its courses; latest technologies and facilities appropriate to the participants' working conditions and requirements are used.

Barneveld College is one of three campuses forming The Innovation and Practical Training Centre Livestock (IPC Livestock) which covers the entire livestock sector (ruminants, pet animals, etc.) and a considerable part of the livestock production column (from animal feed manufacturing technology through slaughtering, meat inspection and processing and dairy technology). The other campuses are:

  • IPC Livestock Dairy Training Centre, Friesland, Oenkerk;
  • IPC Livestock Vocational Training Centre, Horst.

The tasks of the Department of International Studies and Co-operation programmes of IPC Livestock are

  • Training activities in the Netherlands: In addition to the regular courses, short commercially oriented courses and ad hoc courses are organized on request of governments, national and international agencies, companies and non-government organizations.
  • Training activities abroad: a) Courses at request of governments, companies and national and international agencies at locations in developing countries. b) Involvement in various types of co-operation programmes in other countries, aimed at supporting and assisting local counterpart organizations in establishing and strengthening (existing) practical training and education centres for animal husbandry and animal feed manufacturing. IPC Livestock Barneveld College maintains a worldwide network of useful contacts in the fields mentioned above.
  • Consultations and backstopping services: Expertise in the husbandry of small species of farm animals, in animal feed manufacturing and in practical training and education in these fields is regularly requested by national and international organizations, both government and non-government.

The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries is the major funding agency and covers a substantial part of the operating costs so that the tuition fee can be kept low.
