Ethiopia's high-tech commodity exchange

Launched in April 2008, the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) has revolutionised coffee sales. Initially focussed on immediate sale and delivery of beans, the Exchange is now moving towards trade in coffee futures and speciality coffees.

It's an absolutely brilliant initiative and something that should be implemented across Africa to promote production from small scale farmers.

Very nice. ECX is still in its infancy but in 5 years will probably reach about 20-40% of the farmers. farmers are still pessimistic about this Exchange, but in a few years as the results become more public and ECX opens more warehouses across the nation, it will be good news. Yay for market consistency.
