Garden-in-a-sack for urban poor

Thousands of landless poor in Nairobi's slum areas are supplementing their food and income by growing vegetables in sacks. Many are making compost from kitchen waste and bio-pesticides from locally growing plants, to boost their yields.

This is a feasible food security and livelihoods project that has great potential for up-scaling towards offering sustainable solutions to urban poor especially the women and youth in Kenya and other cities in developing countries globally.
