Computers in the cassava field

An initiative to fight cassava disease in Africa's Great Lakes region is taking a big step into the future by experimenting with the latest generation of mini laptops. Smaller, more rugged, and less expensive, mini laptops are increasingly suited for the African field, bringing with them a whole new array of possibilities for monitoring and evaluation.

I'd really love to know if some information on the local varieties of cassava was gathered in this exercise. A great way of monitoring adoption of new varieties and possible erosion of the old landraces (which could then be collected and conserved ex situ as necessary).
