Livestock policy hubs: getting to the core of livestock keeping in East Africa

The livestock sector in East Africa has been steadily growing since the mid 1990's, but poverty rates among those who depend on livestock seem to be getting worse. In response, the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) has established a Livestock Policy Initiative in the region to strengthen capacity to develop pro-poor livestock related policies.

This article underpins the impotence of pro-poor livestock policies to support the poor men and women whose livelihoods are dependent on livestock. I think this is a timely issues which calls for the attention of stakeholders and decision makers.
