Cavies bring protein, income and health benefits across African Savannah

Guinea pigs or cavies are a valuable source of food and income, particularly in areas where war or insecurity prevents keeping of larger livestock. Several African governments are keen to develop cavy rearing; that process is being supported by a new research project targeting breed improvement, better husbandry practices and stronger production and market linkages.
