A call to action for animal genetic resources

With an increasing bias towards exotic breeds and industrialised livestock keeping, the value of indigenous breeds is often overlooked or ignored. Commitment and cooperation by governments in the sustainable use of animal genetic resources is urgently required.

Indian cattle of indigeous breed possess good charactors for agriculture and foods of by-products. Indgenous breed can thrive on feed residues, tolerate hot and maintain BMR through out, milking long periods without feed supliments and best input.
