Despite ten years of peace, Guatemala, the most densely populated country in Latin America, remains politically unstable with high unemployment and inequitable wealth. The indigenous Mayans live mostly in the western Highlands and are involved in agriculture; subsistence crops and coffee production as well as new non-traditional export crops such as snowpeas.
