New alliance for research uptake

Nine research institutions, including the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Centre (AVRDC), the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the International Fertiliser Development Center (IFDC), have formed an alliance to promote the uptake of research by farming communities. Launched in October 2012, the Association of International Research and Development Centres for Agriculture (AIRCA) aims to raise the profile of work done by individual members and strengthen capacity building at grassroots level.
During a pilot phase, an online gateway will facilitate collaboration, allowing members to share reports and other information. This is intended to lead to the development of joint proposals for demand-driven research and capacity building. Retaining a loose organisational structure, the Association will serve more than 60 countries and seek to support both livelihood improvements and environmental sustainability. Collaboration with other research groups and the private sector will also be explored, subject to financial support.
