Biofortification - breeding for better nutrition

Iron-rich rice
AgroSalud and its regional partners introduced rice varieties with higher levels of iron and zinc in rural Bolivia in 2009. With rice being a widely grown and highly consumed crop in Latin America, the benefits from improving its nutritional content could extend to millions of people. Bolivia is one of fourteen AgroSalud-affiliated countries in Latin America that could increase their iron intake with locally-grown, biofortified rice.
