Worm power

Improving soil fertility through simple ecological methods such as vermicompost, can increase yields in a sustainable way. Through a public-private partnership initiative, ICRISAT is working with the government, local farm centres and NGOs to train thousands of farmers to test and restore their soils by adding essential micronutrients such as zinc and boron needed for healthy plant growth. This along with other soil and water management methods have increased yields by up to 66 per cent even in drought-hit regions.
